Laurence T. D. Sperber, M.D.
Dr. Laurence T. D. Sperber is Director of The Refractive Laser Specialists of New York. A fellowship-trained Corneal and Refractive Surgeon, Dr. Sperber has achieved national and international recognition in his area of expertise, and has vast experience in all forms of Refractive Laser Procedures. He is also one of only a handful of surgeons in the New York area to be trained in the Intrastromal Corneal Ring (Intacs) refractive surgical procedure. Dr. Sperber also specializes in corneal transplant surgery as well as Laser Cataract Surgery. Dr. Sperber is one of the original investigators on the Dodick Laser Photolysis device for laser removal of cataracts, and was one of the first surgeons in the United States to perform Laser Cataract Surgery.
Dr. Sperber graduated with honors from Harvard University and then earned his medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his Internship in Medicine at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and then did his Ophthalmology residency at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in New York. Dr. Sperber was then selected for a Fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia.
Dr. Sperber is an attending surgeon at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, Columbia University - College of Physicians and Surgeons, Lenox Hill Hospital, and the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Sperber has lectured at many outstanding ophthalmologic institutions around the United States, as well as at many major national and international Ophthalmology meetings. He has published scientific articles in many major Ophthalmology journals, as well as multiple chapters in leading Ophthalmology textbooks. He is very active in ophthalmic research, focusing on Laser Vision Correction and Refractive Surgery, and Laser Cataract Surgery.
